Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012042

Relating to the thymus, a specialized primary lymphoid organ located in the chest. The thymus is the site where T lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, mature and are selected before they are released into the circulation to perform their immune functions. This organ is largest and most active during neonatal and pre-adolescent periods, and its tissue gradually atrophies with age in a process called thymic involution.
