Thymoma
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012044
A neoplasm that develops from the epithelial cells of the thymus, a specialized lymphoid organ located in the chest. These growths are frequently associated with autoimmune disorders, most notably myasthenia gravis, where the body produces antibodies that block or destroy neuromuscular junctions. While many thymomas are benign and slow-growing, some can be malignant and invade surrounding tissues, requiring more aggressive treatment protocols such as surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy.
