Secondary lymphoid tissue
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010618
Organized tissues where mature, naive lymphocytes encounter antigens, become activated, and differentiate into effector and memory cells. These sites include the lymph nodes, spleen, tonsils, and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissues such as Peyer’s patches in the small intestine. In contrast to primary lymphoid organs where lymphocytes develop and mature (like the bone marrow and thymus), secondary tissues are the main sites of the adaptive immune response.
