Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue

Aggregations of lymphoid cells found within the mucous membranes throughout the body, forming a key component of the immune system. These tissues are strategically located to encounter antigens entering the body through mucosal surfaces. Examples include Peyer's patches in the small intestine and tonsils in the pharynx.
