Gut-associated lymphoid tissue

The collection of lymphoid tissue integrated within the wall of the gastrointestinal tract, forming a major component of the body's mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue. It initiates immune responses to specific antigens encountered along the intestinal lumen. This system includes organized structures like Peyer’s patches and isolated lymphoid follicles, as well as diffuse populations of lymphocytes.
