Mucosa

A moist epithelial lining that covers the internal surfaces of organs and cavities exposed to the external environment, such as the digestive, respiratory, and urogenital tracts. It consists of an epithelial layer, a basement membrane, and an underlying layer of connective tissue. The mucosa serves protective, absorptive, and secretory functions.
