Lamina propria
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006431
A thin layer of loose connective tissue situated directly beneath the epithelium of mucous membranes, such as those lining the respiratory, digestive, and urogenital tracts. It contains a variety of cells, including fibroblasts, lymphocytes, and macrophages, embedded in an extracellular matrix. This layer also houses the blood vessels and lymphatic vessels that supply the avascular epithelium.
