Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003889

The thin, smooth membrane forming the innermost lining of the heart's chambers and covering the heart valves. It is composed of a layer of endothelial cells overlying a thin layer of connective tissue. This structure provides a smooth, non-thrombogenic surface for blood flow and is continuous with the endothelium of the major blood vessels connected to the heart.
