Margination

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006959

The process by which leukocytes (white blood cells) move from the central flow of blood to the periphery of blood vessels, particularly venules, and adhere to the endothelial lining. This initial step is mediated by adhesion molecules on both the leukocyte and endothelial cell surfaces. It precedes diapedesis, where leukocytes exit the bloodstream to reach sites of inflammation.
