Vascular addressin

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012521

A type of cell adhesion molecule expressed on the surface of endothelial cells lining blood vessels in specific tissues or organs. These molecules function as ligands for homing receptors on circulating leukocytes, directing their migration from the bloodstream into particular lymphoid or inflamed tissues. The interaction between vascular addressins and leukocyte homing receptors is a key step in lymphocyte recirculation and immune surveillance.
