Lymphocyte homing

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006831

The directed migration of lymphocytes from the bloodstream into specific lymphoid organs or sites of inflammation, guided by interactions between adhesion molecules and chemokines. This process allows immune cells to survey different tissues for pathogens and to concentrate in areas where an immune response is needed. Homing receptors on the lymphocyte surface recognize specific ligands on endothelial cells, facilitating extravasation.
