Homing
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005349
The process by which circulating cells, such as lymphocytes or hematopoietic stem cells, migrate from the bloodstream to a specific tissue or organ. This directed movement is guided by a series of molecular interactions involving adhesion molecules and chemokine receptors on the cell surface. For example, leukocyte homing to sites of inflammation is mediated by selectins and integrins.
