Diapedesis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003131
The process by which leukocytes (white blood cells) exit blood vessels and migrate into surrounding tissues at sites of inflammation or infection. This involves the cells squeezing between endothelial cells lining the vessel walls. The process is mediated by specific adhesion molecules on both the leukocyte and endothelial cell surfaces.
