Cardiac jelly

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001669

A gelatinous, extracellular matrix rich in hyaluronic acid and proteoglycans, located between the myocardium and endocardium during early embryonic heart development. This acellular layer provides structural support and facilitates the remodeling of the heart tube into its four-chambered structure. It is gradually replaced by connective tissue as the heart matures.
