Myocardium

The muscular tissue of the heart, responsible for its contractile function and pumping blood throughout the circulatory system. It is composed of specialized cardiac muscle cells that are interconnected and work in a coordinated manner. This tissue is supplied with oxygen and nutrients by the coronary arteries.
