Tissue

A collection of specialized cells and their extracellular matrix that work together to perform a specific function within a multicellular organism. Tissues are organized into organs and organ systems, forming the structural and functional basis of biological systems. Examples include epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscle tissue, and nervous tissue.
