1. A group of similar cells.
2. An aggregate of cells with similar or identical specialized characteristics, contributing to the performance of a specific function. Tissues are parts of organs. Representative examples include epithelium, lymphoid tissue, and connective tissue.
3. An anatomical structure consisting of similarly specialized cells and intercellular matrix, aggregated according to genetically determined spatial relationships, performing a specific function.
4. A group or layer of cells that work together to perform a specific function.
