Tip enhanced raman spectroscopy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012080

  1. A surface analysis technique that combines scanning probe microscopy with Raman spectroscopy to obtain chemical information with high spatial resolution. A sharp metallic or metal-coated tip is brought close to the sample surface and illuminated by a laser, creating a highly localized enhancement of the electromagnetic field at the tip's apex. This technique achieves spatial resolution on the order of 10 to 20 nanometers.

  2. A surface analysis method that provides chemical information with nanoscale spatial resolution by using a sharp, metallized probe tip. The tip, integrated into a scanning probe microscope, creates a localized surface plasmon resonance that greatly amplifies the Raman scattering signal from the sample area directly beneath it. This technique achieves a spatial resolution on the order of 10 to 20 nanometers, far below the optical diffraction limit.
