Raman spectroscopy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009912
A spectroscopic technique used to observe vibrational, rotational, and other low-frequency modes in a system. It relies on inelastic scattering of monochromatic light, usually from a laser, where the scattered light has a different wavelength from the incident light. The energy difference corresponds to vibrational modes of the molecules in the sample, providing a unique spectral fingerprint.
