Raman shift

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009911

The difference in wavenumber between the incident monochromatic radiation and the scattered Raman radiation. This shift corresponds to the vibrational energy levels of the molecules in the sample. It is typically expressed in reciprocal centimeters (cm⁻¹) and is independent of the excitation wavelength, making it a characteristic property of a specific molecular vibration.
