Transition wavenumber
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012244
The wavenumber corresponding to the energy difference between two specific energy levels in an atom or molecule. It represents the reciprocal of the wavelength of the electromagnetic radiation absorbed or emitted during a transition between these levels. This quantity is expressed in reciprocal centimeters (cm⁻¹) or reciprocal meters (m⁻¹).
