Wharton’s jelly

A gelatinous connective tissue found within the umbilical cord, surrounding the umbilical arteries and vein. This mucoid tissue is rich in proteoglycans and hyaluronic acid, providing structural support and protection to the blood vessels. It also contains mesenchymal stem cells, which are of interest in regenerative medicine.
