Basement membrane

A specialized extracellular matrix that forms a sheet-like structure separating epithelial and endothelial cells from underlying connective tissue. It provides structural support, acts as a selective barrier, and regulates cell behavior. This membrane is composed of two main layers: the basal lamina and the reticular lamina.
