Ependymal tissue
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004011
A type of glial tissue composed of ependymal cells that forms the epithelial-like lining of the fluid-filled ventricles in the brain and the central canal of the spinal cord. These ciliated cells are involved in the production, circulation, and absorption of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Unlike true epithelium, ependymal tissue lacks a basement membrane, with the basal side of the cells tapering into processes that connect with astrocytes.
