Glial cell

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004901

A non-neuronal cell found in the central and peripheral nervous systems that supports and protects neurons. These cells perform functions such as maintaining ionic balance, forming the myelin sheath for insulation, and providing nutrients to nerve cells. Unlike neurons, most mature glial cells retain the ability to divide, a property linked to the formation of certain brain tumors.
