Schwann cell
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010578
A type of glial cell found in the peripheral nervous system that forms the myelin sheath around axons. These cells provide insulation and support for nerve fibers, facilitating the rapid transmission of electrical impulses. Each Schwann cell typically myelinates only a single segment of an axon.
