Glia
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004900
The non-neuronal cells of the nervous system that provide physical and metabolic support to neurons. Glial cells maintain homeostasis, form myelin sheaths around axons, and participate in signal transmission and immune response. The central nervous system contains several types of glia, including astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and microglia, while the peripheral nervous system contains Schwann cells and satellite cells.
