Spongioblast
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011239
A primitive neuroectodermal cell that arises from the epithelial lining of the neural tube during embryonic development. These precursor cells differentiate to form the glial cells of the central nervous system, specifically astrocytes and oligodendrocytes, which provide structural and metabolic support to neurons. A tumor composed of these primitive cells is known as a spongioblastoma.
