Neural plate
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007854
A thickened ectodermal structure that forms during early embryonic development, serving as the precursor to the central nervous system. It arises from the dorsal ectoderm in response to signaling molecules from the underlying notochord. The neural plate subsequently folds inward to form the neural groove and then closes to become the neural tube.
