Neural tube
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007856
A hollow structure formed during embryonic development from the folding and fusion of the neural plate, which ultimately develops into the brain and spinal cord. Its closure is a fundamental event in vertebrate embryogenesis, occurring around the fourth week of gestation in humans. Defects in neural tube closure can lead to conditions such as spina bifida or anencephaly.
