Anencephaly

A severe birth defect in which a baby is born without parts of the brain and skull. This condition occurs when the neural tube, which forms the brain and spinal cord, fails to close properly during the first few weeks of embryonic development. It is a type of neural tube defect, often associated with folate deficiency during pregnancy.
