Meningocele
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007181
A type of neural tube defect where the meninges, the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, protrude through an opening in the skull or spinal column. This protrusion forms a sac filled with cerebrospinal fluid, but it does not contain neural tissue. Surgical repair is often performed to close the opening and prevent infection.
