Meningitis

Inflammation of the meninges, the three layers of membrane that envelop the brain and spinal cord. The condition results from infection by viruses, bacteria, or fungi, or from non-infectious causes like certain drugs or autoimmune disorders. Diagnosis involves analyzing cerebrospinal fluid obtained via a lumbar puncture for elevated white blood cell counts and specific pathogens.
