Cerebrospinal fluid
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001817
A clear, colorless body fluid found within the tissue that surrounds the brain and spinal cord of all vertebrates. It is produced in the choroid plexuses of the ventricles of the brain and acts as a cushion or buffer, providing basic mechanical and immunological protection to the brain inside the skull. Analysis of this fluid, obtained via lumbar puncture, is a common diagnostic procedure for detecting diseases of the central nervous system.
