Subarachnoid hemorrhage
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011507
An extravasation of blood into the subarachnoid space, which is the fluid-filled area located between the arachnoid mater and the pia mater membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord. This condition is a type of stroke and can result from a ruptured cerebral aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation, or head injury. Diagnosis is typically confirmed through a computed tomography (CT) scan or by detecting blood in the cerebrospinal fluid via a lumbar puncture.
