Arteriovenous malformation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000803

A congenital disorder characterized by an abnormal tangle of blood vessels where arteries connect directly to veins, bypassing the capillary system. This direct connection results in high-pressure arterial blood flowing into low-pressure veins, which can weaken the vessel walls over time. Such malformations can occur in any part of the body, but those in the brain or spinal cord are particularly serious due to the risk of hemorrhage.
