Arachnoid membrane

A delicate, web-like middle layer of the meninges, the protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. It lies between the dura mater and the pia mater, separated from the latter by the subarachnoid space, which contains cerebrospinal fluid. This membrane lacks blood vessels and adheres closely to the dura mater.
