Meningoencephalitis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007182
Inflammation of both the brain parenchyma (encephalitis) and the surrounding membranes known as the meninges (meningitis). This serious condition can result from infection by pathogens like bacteria, viruses, or fungi, or from non-infectious causes including exposure to certain neurotoxic chemicals. Diagnosis is confirmed through analysis of cerebrospinal fluid obtained by lumbar puncture, which reveals inflammatory cells and may identify the causative agent.
