Meningomyelocele

A severe form of spina bifida, a birth defect where the spinal canal and backbone do not close completely during fetal development. In this condition, both the meninges and a portion of the spinal cord protrude through the opening in the vertebrae, forming a sac on the back. This defect often results in neurological impairments below the level of the lesion.
