Axon
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001040
A long, slender projection extending from the cell body of a neuron, responsible for transmitting electrical impulses away from the cell body to other neurons, muscles, or glands. It is typically covered by a myelin sheath, which insulates the axon and speeds up signal conduction. The axon terminates in multiple branches, each with a synaptic knob.
