Axonal transport
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001042
The cellular process responsible for moving mitochondria, lipids, proteins, and other materials along the axon of a neuron. This movement occurs in two directions: anterograde transport moves substances from the cell body toward the axon terminal, while retrograde transport moves materials back to the cell body. The process relies on molecular motors, such as kinesins and dyneins, that travel along microtubule tracks within the axon.
