Active transport
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000193
The movement of molecules across a cell membrane against their concentration gradient, requiring energy input. This process allows cells to accumulate substances in higher concentrations than their surroundings. It is mediated by specific carrier proteins and can be primary, directly using ATP, or secondary, using an electrochemical gradient.
