Solvent drag
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011022
The movement of a solute across a semipermeable membrane due to the bulk flow of the solvent, rather than by diffusion or active transport. As the solvent moves, it carries dissolved solutes along with it, even against their concentration gradient. This phenomenon is observed in biological systems, such as kidney filtration, and in membrane separation processes.
