Osmotic pressure
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008353
The hydrostatic pressure required to prevent the net flow of solvent molecules across a semipermeable membrane into a solution. This pressure arises from the difference in solute concentration between the two sides of the membrane, driving solvent movement from a region of higher solvent concentration to lower. It is directly proportional to the molar concentration of the solute at a given temperature.
