Membrane extraction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007158

A separation process where a semipermeable membrane acts as a selective barrier between two phases, allowing specific components of a mixture to pass through it. The driving force for transport across the membrane may be a concentration gradient, pressure difference, or electrical potential. This technique is distinct from filtration, as it involves selective permeation at a molecular level rather than physical retention of particles.
