Permeation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008670
The process by which a substance passes through a barrier or membrane. This movement occurs due to a concentration or pressure gradient across the barrier. The rate of permeation is quantified by the permeability coefficient, which has units of amount of substance per unit area per unit time per unit pressure or concentration gradient.
