Mass transfer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007001
The net movement of a chemical species from one point to another, driven by a concentration gradient, pressure gradient, or external force. In biotechnology, it describes the transport of substances like nutrients or oxygen across phase boundaries, such as from a gas bubble into the liquid medium of a bioreactor. The rate is quantified by a mass transfer coefficient, with units such as meters per second.
