Diffusion

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003191

The net movement of particles from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration, driven by random molecular motion. This process continues until the particles are uniformly distributed throughout the available volume. Diffusion is a fundamental transport mechanism in gases, liquids, and solids, and its rate is described by Fick's laws.
