Gradient

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004977

A gradual change in a physical or chemical property, such as temperature, pressure, or concentration, over a given distance or region. In atmospheric chemistry, this often describes variations in pollutant concentrations or meteorological parameters with altitude or horizontal distance. Gradients drive transport processes, such as diffusion and advection, influencing the distribution of substances in the atmosphere.
