Concentration gradient
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002361
A difference in the concentration of a substance between two regions, leading to a net movement of that substance from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. This gradient is a driving force for passive transport processes, such as diffusion and osmosis, across biological membranes. The magnitude of the gradient influences the rate of substance movement.
